We’re off!

camping.jpg

We’re leaving today for our annual Speelman family camping trip!  My boys (all four of them) love this camping trip.  It is something they look forward to all year and something they will always remember.  I call it a “working” vacation, but I love it too.  Here are some photos from past trips.  I’ll have lots more to share when we get back.

I’ve been working ahead so that I’ll have a new post every day we’re gone.  I’m determined not to a miss a day this summer!  My sister will “publish” a post a day while I’m gone.  So keep checking in!

Cutie of the day . . .

Today was our second summer-get-together with the kids.  Grant and Bryce hosted (with a lot of help from their mom). We swam and ate then ate and swam.  Everyone had so much fun!  The food was delicious (loved that chicken salad Dana!) Truitt even jumped off the diving board!

I posted one of my favorite shots of Grant. He’s so darn cute!  Just click on the square thumbnails to see the album photos full size.

Thanks so much Dana, Grant and Bryce!

Pancakes with Kim & Dale

kim.jpg

Let me just start by saying that we are so incredibly blessed to have the most wonderful loving home to send our children to during the school year.  Kim has watched all three of my boys over the past seven years.  Kim, Dale, Andrea and Josh have become our extended family. We love them!

Earlier this year we gave Kim a gift certificate for the Original Pancake House.  When Truitt saw her open it he immediately wanted to go out for pancakes (his very favorite).  Kim promised that she would take Truitt for pancakes one day.  So, yesterday she called and invited us to her campsite for a pancake breakfast.  My boys were so excited.  We had so much fun seeing Kim, Dale, Grandma Ginny, Anna and Jack, eating pancakes and playing at the park.

Thank you Kim and Dale!

“Hole-in-one Shootout” WINNER!

Joe.jpg

Last night Joe went up against 21 finalists in the St. Vincent Ferrer hole-in-one shootout.  He had one shot (no practice) to get his ball closest to the pin.  Joe hit the ball 9′ from the pin and was the winner!  He won a six month membership to The Oasis Country Club and four rounds of golf at Stonelick golf course.  The boys were most impressed with that giant trophy.  Joe promised that if he won the trophy he would let them keep it in their room and that is exactly where it is.

Dizzy Isaac

As promised, here are the photos of Isaac at the festival.  The look on Isaac’s face pretty much tells the story.  He was hanging on for dear life staring straight ahead the whole time.  I really didn’t think he was going to make it to the end of the ride without getting sick, but he did!  You can see the relief on his face in the last photo.  Needless to say, this was his last ride of the night.

Owen’s first festival ride . . .

We went to St. Vincent’s festival last night.  Owen rode his first “ride”.  Big brother Truitt graciously offered to ride with him (Isaac was too tall).  I think they both had a great time.  I had the best time just watching them.  They are the best little buddies!  Owen loves to “entertain” Truitt and vise versa.  Isaac went with his friends and rode some “big boy” rides.  I’ll post some pics later of Isaac on his ride.  He was very close to tossing some cookies if you know what I mean.  I dutifully photographed the whole thing.

Where is the ice cream man?

ice cream.jpg

Remember those days when you heard that faint music box sound coming from ten blocks away?  Well, our kids may not hear us call them for dinner, but they have developed a keen sense for detecting the ice cream man.  You always know when he’s in the neighborhood because your kids come tearing into the house like it’s on fire asking for money.  On this particular day, the ice cream man was a no-show, but that didn’t stop our kids from waiting ever so patiently at the end of the driveway.  Come to think of it, I don’t think I ever got that money back.

Girls Night Out!

Hofbrau.jpg

Last night was our first SJHS girls-night-out of the summer.  We went to the Hofbrauhaus in Newport.  That place is always a blast- saurkraut balls, pretzels with beer cheese, fried dill pickles, live accordian music and of course a liter of their finest brew.  We had a great time!  Going out with the girls is great therapy (and a lot cheaper than the real thing).

Hot and Muggy Day

What do you do on a hot and muggy day?  Play Gameboy on the porch of course.  (One day soon Isaac won’t sit this close to a girl.)
