Fun Flip Flops

Flip Flops.jpg

Just wanted to share one of my first seventh grade art projects.  I asked each student to make a cut paper flip flop and cover it with a personal collage.  Every single one turned out awesome!  I hung them in a walking trail in the hallway outside my room just in time for Open House with a sign that said, “Look who strolled into the Art room . . .”.  FUN!

For those of you die-hard freckle photoblog visitors, I just want you to know that I am committed to posting every weekend at the very least.  Life is so hectic right now that I’ve been unable to post during the weekdays.  I should have some more posts for this weekend so check back.  I want to thank all of you loyal vistors- you make this even more fun!

I’m stealing this idea, Melissa! So cute! Nobody but other teachers understand the time crunch we’re under. I love your site!

Go for it Christy! Just to let you know I used 6×12″ tagboard (cut from a 9×12″ sheet). I cut the extra tag into long skinny strips for the straps. I traced my own flip flops for shape reference (make sure there is a right and a left if you want them walking)and put a photocopy at each table. I asked students to do a personal collage including their name. I like to start out with a project that helps me get to know each student plus then I have something to show for Open House. Have a great school year!

I love the flip flops and the saying you put with it you are very talented. I wish I had an art teacher like you when I was in school.

Melissa What a wonderful idea I teach many children from my art studio in australia
Last Year in a similiar vien we painted the sun decorated with all the paraphernalia their imaginations and mind could conjur up. It had to be anything which lived on, or existed near the sun. Children have very mystical ideas.

These ‘Designer’ Flip flops would be perfect for our subtropical weather. Great idea….. creative children.

What a Great Idea!! Just jumped over here from the TAE list…..I know I can also review some of my basic supply and clean up rules right in this during day 1! I teach grades 6,7 and 9! What I think I will do is post to my school web page to bring in images for day 1 - will be a good check of how often my page is looked at prior to the opening of school

    Thanks for sharing this idea.

I am so impressed with this. I am going to do this with all my classes–I needed a “till schedules get straightened out” filler. This is perfect. See, even after 37 years in the classroom, this old dog still finds new tricks. THANKS.
