When did this kid grow up?

Isaac Moeller.jpg

Isaac went to the Moeller football game on Friday night with his friend Ben.  We borrowed one of Devin’s old Moeller shirts for Isaac to wear to the game.  When he came outside to get into the car I just looked at him and couldn’t believe how mature he looked.  I’m not sure if it was the shirt or the fact that he was going to a high school football game with a friend- I just know that at that moment I felt a little pang of “where has the time gone”.  My little Isaac is just not little anymore.  I have to say that I am so very proud of the big boy (I can’t bear to say little man) that he is becoming :).

Photo Booth Strip!

Truitts tooth.jpg

Truitt just lost his front tooth!  He looks so darn cute.  Isaac says he looks different to him.  I was playing around today and put together some pics of his *toothless* grin as a photo booth strip.  I thought it turned out pretty good.  These pics are *so* Truitt!

iTunes Project

ipod blog.jpg

I wanted to share my latest 7th grade project inspired by the iTunes ads.  Students were asked to come up with an action that was descriptive of their personality.  Some students even brought in props.  We took digital photos of the students “in action”.  Using Photoshop, students extracted their silhouette and created their composition.  Each student chose a descriptive verb preceeded by the iTunes “i” along with the background color of their choice.  Every single project looks professional.  I am so proud of every one of my students!  This is just a sampling of the completed digital projects.  Students are using the grid method to create a painting from their digital compositions.

Fun family!

M family.jpg

Meet Michelle, Jason, Brinley, Trevor and Caleb.  We met at a historic home in King’s Mills this morning.  It was such an incredible home.  It is in the process of being renovated, but it’s rustic appearance was perfect for this family!  We had a great time roaming around finding fun places for photographs.  Michelle and Jason’s kids are all about one year younger than my three.  Brinley and Trevor seem very close and they were both so good with their little brother.  I feel so fortunate to be able to meet such great people, hang out and take pictures :) .

Owen found the camera . . .

Owen camera.jpg

Owen has been taking lots of pictures lately.  He found one of my point and shoots carelessly laying around and has taken the liberty of using it every chance he gets.  He’s actually getting pretty good at it.  It’s tough to push that shutter while keeping your subject in the viewfinder (especially when you are two).  We have lots of photos of walls, elbows, knees and ceilings.  I love the pic of his flag with his cute little toes peeking into the frame!

Just one . . .

Jaimes kids.jpg

Today after school I met up with one of my friends/co-workers and her three adorable kids for a mini photo session.  I haven’t even begun to look through the pics yet because it’s been a crazy soccer practice night.  I did, however, pop two images open because I shot RAW for the first time today and I wanted to try my hand at processing an image (sorry for the techno-mumble-jumble).  I fell in love with this one and had to share.  More to come . . .

Soccer season begins!

True soccer2.jpg

Not my best work here, but you get the idea.  I was taking pics of everyone elses kids and the ones of my own are probably the worst!  Never fear, it’s the beginning of the season.  I have plenty of time to redeem myself.  I love soccer.  Maybe it’s because I love Fall and soccer season kicks off Autumn for me.  Truitt also loves soccer.  I’m not saying he’s a soccer prodigy or anything, but he truly enjoys it.  Right now my boys dabble in quite a few different sports.  I’m hoping that as they get older each one will narrow down which sports they truly love.  I’d be very happy to be a soccer mom :)

(p.s. Owen loves soccer too- well he loves any sport that involves a flag)

Speelman Reunion

Reunion copy.jpg

This past Saturday we headed up to Leesville for an extended Speelman family reunion.  There were lots of Speelman’s that I had never met before.  You will probably recognize most of the Speelman’s pictured here.  I think the only one I missed (of the little cousins that were at the reunion) is Kaleb.  I didn’t really miss him- he just had his eyes shut in every single picture he was in!  I just can’t believe how big Addy and the twins are getting.  It’s been a while since we’ve gotten together with Joe’s family.  This was a pretty short get together, but the holidays are coming soon.  We are all looking forward to being together.

A very special session . . .

Natalie at birth.jpg

This is Natalie.  These photos were taken by her dad.  In my last post I mentioned a special session that I had in Columbus.  This little girl stole just my heart.  I ask Natalie’s parents if I could share their letter on my blog and a few photos of Natalie’s first moments after birth.  Her story is very inspiring . . .

Hello,

My sister came across your blog recently and forwarded the link to me because she was so impressed with your photos. My husband and I have been trying to decide how to go about getting professional photos of our daughter Natalie who will turn 1 yr old soon. She has come a long way this past year after she and her brother were born 16 weeks early last September. Being so premature, they were both very sick and Andrew only lived for 2 days after his birth. Natalie spent 110 days in the NICU and endured countless medical procedures and 2 surgeries. Needless to say, she is a tough little girl and we are so proud of her. Due to her fragile lungs we were unable to leave the house with her all winter and going to get photos taken at a regular childrens photography place still makes us nervous due to all the germs! She is also behind developmentally and has some vision problems including strabismus which makes it difficult to get a photo of her when her eyes are straight ahead.

However, we have taken hundreds of photos of her ourselves and we think she looks beautiful in all ofthem! You can check out some of them on our blog which we started after her birth to keep everyone updated about her progress. Sorry for the long message but I wanted to explain our daughter’s history and let you know that while she may not be the easiest child to photograph, she is a sweetie and has the most wonderful smile. After seeing your blog my husband and I both thought you would be the type of person who could take wonderful pictures of Natalie. We live in Columbus but are willing to come to Cincinnati to have photos taken. We hope you have time in your schedule for us and look forward to hearing from you soon!

Natalie!

Natalie.jpg

This is Natalie today.  She is such a gorgeous little girl!  She is also one tough little cookie.  Natalie just turned one.  After reading the families blog and seeing the photographs that document her journey I know that she is one amazing and strong willed little girl.  You should see the way she lights up when her mom and dad talk to her and hold her.  I feel so honored that I had the chance to meet Del and Jeanne and especially Natalie.  I’ll be checking the blog to see how this little one flourishes.  If you know anyone who has a preemie send them a link to Natalie’s blog (www.delhall.com) it is a wonderful resource.  Thanks so much Del, Jeanne and Natalie!
