Well, I can finally say this out loud . . . my photo won the GRAND prize in the Capture Cincinnati photo contest! I’ve known for a couple weeks, but was ask to keep the news hush, hush (which was tough). Last night was the official book release at Joseph-Beth in Oakley. It was fun to see so many photographers faces that have become familiar to me through this project. The chapter winners and I even got to participate in a book signing. It was truly an incredible experience.
The book looks FABULOUS! I don’t know how they chose what to include. There were so many incredible images submitted. I absolutely love the way they printed my winning photo- it’s HUGE! I also found a few of my other photos published as well, “Chubby Cheeks“, “Reflections“, and “Playing Hard“. To top it off my “Friends” photo is on the front page of the Enquirer along with a photo of me signing books in the Local section. CinWeekly is running an article as well with my picture.
I want to take a quick moment to thank my school “family” for coming out last night to support me. My family was unable to be there so it meant a lot to have good friends stop by. THANK YOU!

I should be going to bed, but instead I’m playing. On Friday my brother and his wife, Lori, brought my adorable little nephew, Ivan, to Shelby. I got a chance to do a little photo session with him. Of course I’ll be posting those photos once I get a chance to proof them. Tonight I decided to just *play*. I always want experiment with textures on my photos, but it’s tough to find the right image. I’m not sure if this is the “right” photo or not, but there’s something about it I just love. I’ve had a “yea” and a “nea” vote so far (from family and friends). Feel free to leave your thoughts. I’d like to get some other opinions. Sometimes I see things through my special *Melissa* glasses :).

As some of you may already know, my sister is a self-taught quilter. She has such a cool, funky style of quilting. I just love it. Anyway, she made all three of my boys a special quilt when they were born and now it’s Ivan’s turn. He received his quilt over Thanksgiving. Each image on the quilt holds a special meaning for Ivan and his family. Can you guess what each picture stands for? I’ll post the answers below.
1. Lady bug= Lori (it has a special meaning for her family) 2. Moose= Mike (My brother was known as “Moose-man” for much of his life) 3. Tree= Our family tree 4. The Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria= Columbus, Ohio (Ivan’s hometown) 5. Pilgrim Hat= Thanksgiving 6. Ohio= That’s pretty obvious :) 7. Football= His love for Ohio State Football which I’m quite sure he was born with (not to mention the OSU v. Michigan game which was the first football game he ever watched) 8. Bee= Aunt B who made him this incredible quilt!

Have you ever seen a kid so happy just to be in the presence of flags? Over Veteran’s Day weekend Blue Ash put up over 30 flags representing the different branches of military as well as many conflicts. Of course we drive right by the memorial every day, but when he saw all those flags he went crazy. After getting all the boys where they needed to be I drove Owen back to see them. Forget King’s Island, Owen had the best time running up and down the sidewalk letting the flags blow above him. I’ve been meaning to get this posted since last week, but my hectic life got in the way. I probably won’t be posting the rest of this week since we will be out of town for Thanksgiving. I’ll be sure and take lots of photos at “home” to share when I return. Have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your families and take LOTS of pictures!

I’m probably a little biased, but I think that Ivan is one of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen. Of course he was all decked out in the Ohio State onesie my sister made considering it was such a big day for the Buckeyes. We tried to get a few shots of Ivan on his brand new OSU blanket, but he wasn’t very into it. He has the cutest little newborn cry. He sounds just like a squeaky toy. His whole chin quivers too. I just couldn’t get enough of him. Mike and Lori- you guys did a great job!

Mike just sent me this adorable photo of my brand new nephew. I have a crimp in my neck from looking at it sideways and trying to figure out who he looks like. I’ll be heading up to Columbus tomorrow to see him in person. I’ll give you all the lo-down when I return. I can’t wait!!! See below for the details of his birth :).

This is the last time you’ll see my brother and his wife Lori as a two-some because . . . . my new nephew Ivan Michael was born this morning!!! He was born at 9:47am. He’s 6lbs. 15oz. and 20.5″. I can’t wait to meet him!!!!
