Cool School!

FOX 19web.jpg

Sycamore Jr. High was chosen as this weeks “Cool School”.  Check out my students and classroom on FOX 19!  All the shots in the Art room are my students in my classroom!  Click HERE (Click on Cool School March 20!)  If you click on “Dan Carroll visits Sycamore Jr. High” under the Taco Bell logo you will see me in a green shirt in the very last row (ok, it’s a sea of green shirts so good luck finding me!).  It’s the live broadcast from this morning.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is Joe’s birthday. He is in Myrtle Beach golfing the day away. I’m sure he’s having a great birthday (except for the fact that he’s not able to celebrate with us). The boys wanted to wish him a happy birthday in person so we decided to make a movie for him! We miss you Dad! Hope you get a hole-in-one for your birthday!

Famous Truitt!

Famous Truitt.jpg

Truitt made the news (well, kinda).  Since Friday was “Pi Day” (3-14), Isaac and Truitt’s school held a fundraiser to benefit research for heart disease.  The class who raised the most money had an opportunity to throw a pie at the principal, Mr. Zinser!  Truitt was front and center which landed him on TV!  Sorry about the terrible screen shots.  My television photography needs some work!

The wait is KILLING me!

I am dying to share my new website, but it has not been moved to my domain yet (melissaspeelmanphotography.com).  So, I’m breaking all the rules and unveiling the site anyway!  Don’t add it to your favorites just yet (because you know it will be one of your favorites, right ;) ).  I will let you know when I’m *live* at my new domain.

I worked long and hard on this, and it’s definitely been a labor of love.  Thanks to all the people who have encouraged me to get this far.  My business will remain small since I have quite a lot on my plate :).  I feel so blessed to have such an incredible family, great friends and a (teaching) job that I look forward to every single day.  I’ve come to realize that photography something I need to add to the list.  I’m so overjoyed that there are people out there who will let me come into their homes and hang out with their families.  I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me.

Enjoy the site!  Poke around all you want.  In fact, I loaded a few photos of my boys into one of the client galleries.  Click on “Clients” (far right corner on the bottom bar) and enter “melissa” where it asks for a password.  Feel free to play with the shopping cart.  Heck, you can send me an order if you want (don’t worry I won’t really invoice you :) ).  Click on the image above or click HERE to see the *new* site!

The day after . . .

snowman.jpg

Today looks and feels so much different than yesterday. The storm left us with some perfect packing snow.  I had nothing to do with the sculpture you see above- it’s all Joe’s creative genius.  I was pretty impressed with snowman Joe crafted.  Owen felt it was missing something- so, of course, he added a flag (his Panama flag to be exact).

*SNOW*

snow boys.jpg

Man, do we have snow!  The boys have been itching to get outside, so we broke out the snow suits, boots, hats and gloves and let ‘em have at it.  They had a blast out there.  It was a tad on the windy side for me, but it sure is pretty outside.  It’s hard to believe we’ll be in the fifties by Wednesday!

View from my window . . .

It’s coming down!  School will be closing two hours early today (yippee!).  However, I have a feeling it’s going to take everyone a long time to get home.  This photo was taken from my Art office window.  The snow looks so beautiful from here.   I grabbed one of my yearbook point-and-shoots to share my view with you.  Of course, this photo really doesn’t do it justice.  Stay warm everyone!

Time

IMG_2331.jpg

After putting the boys to bed the other night, I answered a minimum of ten questions (one being, “What Pokemon do you want to be?”), I fetched two cups of water and one sippee cup of milk, I adjusted the hall light at least three times and gave two rounds of kisses and hugs.  Exhausted from this bedtime ritual and knowing that there were lunches to pack and laundry to fold, it wasn’t surprising that I grimmaced a bit when Owen ask me to lay with him.  Begrudgingly, I told him I’d lay with him for five minutes.  As I lay there he looked at me and said in his sweet little voice, “Mommy, I love you so much.”  I just laid there thinking, how could I pass this up?  What could possibly be more important than what I am doing right now?   As I laid there with Owen I couldn’t help but think about all the times I had laid in bed with Isaac and Truitt.  However, I couldn’t seem to remember what we talked about or how their little voices sounded.  It made me a little sad.  It’s hard to believe that my boys will tower over me one day and their voices will be very deep.  These are the times when I am so glad that I have (obsessively) documented my boys lives in photographs.  It is the one and only way that the universe allows us to freeze a moment in time.  You don’t have to be a photographer to this- you just have to own a camera and use it.  I encourage you to get out your camera and take some pictures of the little details in your kids lives that may seem insignificant now.  They won’t seem that way later.  And if your kids are grown you’re not off the hook.  It doesn’t matter what age your kids are, you’ll never regret having too many photos of them.

Ready for Spring

2.jpg

I’m itching for warmer weather, golden sun, flowers blooming and most of all no more SNOW!  I love having fresh flowers in the house, especially on dreary winter days.  I bought these for myself last week.  This morning my shutter finger was twitching so I decided to photograph my flowers sitting on my kitchen table.  I highly recommend picking up a bouquet next time you are at the grocery store.  You’ll be surprised how happy they will make you.
