Invasion

Invasion.jpg

It’s an all-out cicada invasion.  Last night we sat out by the fire pit and the first stages of cicadas (top photo of Truitt holding them) were coming out of the ground in droves and crawling on our feet- eeeewwwww!  It was almost more than I could handle.  Truitt thought it was important to show you the different stages of the cicada.  Of course I’m not sure of the scientific terms, but the top photo is before they shed their skin, the white or “albino” cicadas as my kids call them is the stage just after they shed their shell and wait for their wings to dry.  Then we have the full size, red-eyed “cuties” (yes, my boys think they are simply adorable).  I really think there are more cicadas in our yard this time than in 2004.  They are “singing” so loudly as well.  At any given moment there are dozens of them within reach no matter where you are outside.  Note that Truitt is wearing his cicada shirt that I bought for him back in 2004.  In the photo of the wire fence you can see piles of cicada shells on the ground and if you look carefully you can see full grown cicadas on the actual fence.  There are literally thousands of cicadas on and around that fence.  At least my boys are enjoying every minute of this invasion, I can’t say the same for myself :).

They’re Ba-ack!

My boys are in heaven . . . their favorite little beady-eyed bugs are back.  Last weekend we started seeing them all over shedding their shells.  This weekend I’m starting to hear their loud chirping outside.  The cicadas are back in full swing.  Even Owen loves to find them and pick them up.  The big boys have been filling dump trucks with them.  I’m not a memeber of the cicada fan club, but I do tolerate them pretty well.  Just don’t ask me to hold one.

My friend Becky + Family

I’m still trying to get caught up!  I met up with my friend Becky and her adorable family two weeks ago at Ault Park.  Her girls are SO incredibly adorable.  Gaby was a little bit apprehensive of me and my big ole’ camera, but thanks to Paulo (her daddy) and his “monkey dance” we managed to loosen her up a bit.  It was such a beautiful day to be at the park too!

Cincinnati Cyclones

Last night Matt and Kris invited us to join them along with their friends Marty and Cara for game one in the quest for the Kelly Cup.  They won 18 tickets for a suite in a silent auction- and sweet it was.  Amongst the three familes we had 10 kids all around the same ages.  The suite was *perfect*.  There was private bleacher seating right outside and a totally furnished room complete with a restroom (very important).  We ordered appetizers and pizza for everyone.  To top it all off, the Cyclones won!  It was a great evening!  Thanks for inviting us!!!

Catching up . . .

How gorgeous is this family?!  Every single one of them could have a career in modeling!  I could hardly bear to convert any of these images to b+w.   I love it that they chose to wear red.  It works perfectly.  Both of the parents in this family teach in the same school district that I do.  We met up at their home in Montgomery for our session.  Their girls are the same ages as Isaac and Truitt.  When I arrived the girls were playing Nintendo DS.  I thought, “Hmmm, maybe girls aren’t so different from boys.”

*BIG* Weekend!

Big Weekend.jpg

Our family went “home” this weekend for my nephew, Ivan’s baptism.  I also hooked up with my nephew Nate this morning for a quick senior photo session (he graduates next week).  Then, on the way back to Cincy, we stopped in Columbus to meet my newest neice, Jillian.  I had to buy another memory card while I was home to fit all the photos!  I gave myself “permission” to proof just a couple from each of my mini-sessions.  I wanted to share a few, but now I need to get back to the rest of my proofing.  You will probably see more from these sessions in the weeks to come.  We had such a great time seeing everyone this weekend!

More Ellie . . .

More Ellie.jpg

As promised, here are a few more of sweet little Ellie :).

Just one of Ellie . . .

Ellie.jpg

I’m very behind on my proofing right now.  I usually work on photos after the boys go to bed.  Unfortunately, that is prime “pukey” time for me these days.  Never fear, I will get it all done :).  In the meantime, here is a photo I just love of Ellie.  She is the daughter of a former co-worker of mine.  Nicole used to teach Spanish at the Jr. High with me.  Now she and her husband, Tim, live waaay out in Arkansas.  They were in town for business a couple weeks ago and I had the total pleasure of photographing their adorable little Ellie.  Ellie is three months old and was happiest holding onto her moms hands and standing up like a *big* girl.  This one is a mover and a shaker.  Look out Nicole and Tim, once she starts moving on her own she’ll be hard to keep up with!  More photos to come.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I wanted to write a quick post to wish all the mothers out there a very happy Mother’s Day!!!  I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather today (just nausea) so I have no photos to post :(.  I think the new baby just wanted to be a part of Mother’s Day.  To all the moms:  You have a very special job, I know that all of you out there do it very well too :).  Enjoy your day and hug those kiddos!

p.s. I promise I’ll get some new photos up soon!!!

Spoolies!

IMG_5226.jpg

Meet the Speelman’s . . . as spoolies!  I had these made *especially* for our family by the very talented Erica Daley.  She did such an incredible job!  She even made Joe just the right height.  The boys each have their own unique eye and hair color too.  The boys absolutely love them.  You may be wondering who the little bean at the end of the line is . . . well . . . he/she is just that, a little bean . . . in my belly.  I guess this is my official announcement :).
