Tonight was trick-or-treat in our neighborhood. I always have such a tough time getting decent pictures of the boys on Halloween because they are so eager to hit the pavement and start filling those plastic pumpkins. So tonight I decided to get an early start and it paid off. Isaac and Owen both decided that they wanted to be Rock stars. Truitt had his heart set on being a Clone Trooper. All three boys looked pretty darn good. They are downstairs right now sorting and trading candy- which was always one of my favorite parts of Halloween. I snuck away from the neighborhood fie pit to get some photos posted tonight. That is my treat

Happy Halloween!
Carving Pumpkins
I absolutely *love* Fall and all the fun family traditions that go along with it. This past Saturday we carved our pumpkins. We all love to carve pumpkins except for Truitt. His gag reflex starts up the minute he sees or smells pumpkin guts. So, Truitt drew his face on his pumpkin and we carved it for him. Isaac and Owen, on the other hand love scooping out the guts and carving their own pumpkin. We altered Owen’s design just a bit since his eyes, nose and mouth were scrunched together- but he did most of the work and was very proud of his creation. Isaac took on a mammoth pumpkin and did a great job! The best part is waiting for the sky to get dark and “putting fire in them” (as Owen would say).
Family Pics!
Today we met up with my good friend and fellow photographer Julie Ranee for a family photo swap. I have been looking forward to this for WEEKS and I must say it was all I imagined it to be. We loaded up our two families (we each have three kids) and walked the back alleys of London, Ohio. It was a blast! Our kids all get along so well. We traded memory cards so that we could edit the pics ourselves when we returned home. I had to get something up on my blog the minute I walked in the door. I just *love* this photo! I can’t wait to dig into the rest. You will be seeing more of my family as well as Julie’s- stay tuned!
Anatomy of a Flag- Owen’s Way
As most of you know, my 3-year-old is utterly obsessed with flags. Not only does he look for them everywhere, play with them, insist on wearing clothing with flags on it- he also draws them. Here are a few things his flags must have: a rope- always blowing in the wind, yet tied neatly at the bottom of the pole. Flags must also be secured to the rope- even if that means drawing more ropes from the flag to the main rope. There also must be a ball at the top of the flag. Here are a few of his most recent flag creations. Enjoy

Kim’s Family
I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Kim’s parents last Friday. Kim said it’s probably been 30 years since her parents have had a proper photo taken. They are the sweetest couple. You can just feel the love between them. Kim’s sister and her husband joined us too. There was a lot of laughter during our time together. I love hanging out with families that truly enjoy each other- Kim’s family definitely fits that description.
Columbus Weekend
I thought I would post some more shots from my p+s of my weekend in Columbus. We met up with my mom, brother, his wife- Lori, and cute little Ivan for lunch on Saturday. It was so great to see them all. We had so much fun at lunch. Mom stayed a little longer and went shopping with B and I. It’s not often we get to just hang out together. As you can tell, eating was a big part of our weekend
. We also went to a matinee (something else I never get to do). Both nights we were in by about 9pm (we are such party animals). As kids we always used to do facial masks together, so we stopped at Target and picked one up. I have a feeling the last time I did a mud mask I was probably in college! Sunday morning we ate at the yummiest brunch place in Short North. It’s called Northstar and it’s right on High St. I highly recommend checking it out. Such fun!
Two months to go . . .
One of the things B and I planned to do on our “Sister Weekend” was to have a little pregnancy photo session. On Saturday evening we headed over to Short North and roamed the streets and alleys for some good photo ops. It was so much fun! I usually prefer to be on the other side of the camera, but I think B did a great job. We had so much fun working together on this. I had to include a fun one of her too- we found the perfect “Bee” mural for B to fly by.
*NEW* Blog Design!
Thanks to my oh-so-talented sister I have an incredible new blog design. I really wanted BIG images on my blog so I found a template that I liked and my sister helped me to customize and install it. I absolutely *LOVE* the new look. I hope you do too! p.s. this is the exciting “news” I was talking about
I wanted to have some fun images to post for the unveiling of the new blog design- one of my all-time favorite family traditions is our trip to the pumpkin farm each year. This past Saturday we loaded up the boys and headed to Iron’s Farm in Lebanon. We have gone to Iron’s for at least nine years now. The boys love the hayride out to the pumpkin patch. Our rule is “If you can carry it, you can have it.” It’s always so much fun to trek through the field looking for that perfect pumpkin. It was such a gorgeous day on Saturday. After pumpkin hunting we always get a pumpkin donut at Iron’s bakery-they are so delicious! It’s hard to believe that next year we will have one more Speelman tagging along on this trip

Sister Weekend
Originally I had a plane ticket to fly to Chicago this weekend for my annual “sister weekend”, but given the fact that I’m HUGE and pregnant, walking really isn’t my strong point right now. So, I transferred the ticket to my sister and she is flying into Columbus this morning. We are staying in a fancy pants hotel downtown Columbus (courtesy of my sweet husband who has millions of Marriott points racked up from all his travel). We are just going to hang out, kick back and have fun. My mom is driving down from Shelby on Saturday and my brother, Mike, his wife, Lori and cutie Ivan are having lunch with us too. I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks now! It will be so nice to get away for a truly relaxing weekend. Of course I’ll have pics to post when I return.
Oh, and by the way, my exciting news- while very exciting to me, may not be quite as exciting for all of you. After reading the comments on that post I feel like I’m going to diappoint you all- I’m not announcing that I’m having twins nor am I finding out the sex of the baby (Sorry Sue). I feel better posting that disclaimer :). The exciting “thing” I’m talking about should surface sometime next week.
Natalie & Family
As promised, here are some more photos of Natalie and her family. When Natalie’s mom, Jeanne contacted me to take her two year photos I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check up on this little sweetie. What a difference a year makes . . . I cannot believe how much she’s grown and how far she has come! I knew this little girlie was a fighter the first time I met her last year. You should see the way she lights up when her dad speaks French to her. Natalie brought along her aunt, uncle and two cousins this time. You can see how much she loves them too. We had a great time together. I can’t wait to see what Natalie’s up to next year!
