Thanksgiving

I really did a shameful job of taking photos this Thanksgiving.  However, in my defense, I’m 38 weeks pregnant and feeling a bit miserable.  I was a wee bit concerned that I would go into labor while in Shelby or Mansfield.  I’m happy to report that I’m back home in Cincinnati with baby Speelman still tucked away in my belly.  I’m so glad we were able to make the trip home for Thanksgiving . . . our old home that is.  It’s so hard to get everyone together these days.  My boys love seeing their cousins.  It is the holidays that make us realize how important family really is.  I’m already looking forward to getting together for Christmas.  Hopefully I’ll be a little thinner, a little less miserable and I’ll have new little Speelman to show off.

Just a few things I am thankful for . . .

It’s Tuesday night and I’m frantically trying to put together a collage of things I am thankful for before we head out.  Apparently I’m thankful for waaay too much because my computer has crashed twice in the process of putting together my images.  Suffice it to say that the images above represent only a fraction of all the incredible people . . . friends and family . . . who have graced my life.  I am so incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive and loving group of people standing right beside me no matter what I do.  Thanks to EVERYONE who touches my my life in any way . . . in big ways or seemingly small ways.  You all mean the world to me :).  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

36.5 Weeks

I thought it was time for a belly update.  I recruited Isaac to push the button for a few shots of my mammoth bump.  Sometimes I look at myself in amazement- it’s hard to believe a body can stretch this way.  I hope no one minds the bare belly shot- I just want to remember this.  I’m not sure how many more belly shots I’ll get in before it’s gone.

Capture Cincinnati 2008!

Last night was the Capture Cincinnati release party.  I received an e-mail last week stating that I had at least one photo in the book and that one of my photos was awarded one of the 25 prizes.  So after a week of suspense I finally found out that my photo of Abby won second place in the “People” category!  I think the most exciting part was seeing four of my photos in the book- all printed LARGE!  They look incredible!  I saw many familiar faces at the release party.  The top photos in each chapter were truly phenomenal- you can check out the winning images HERE.

Above are a few pics from the release party that were posted on Cin Weekly’s site.  The first photo is of Dennis Camp (last years cover winner and this year’s winner of the Nature Chapter) and yours truly.  Dennis’ winning photo is in the top right.  Next is David Williams who used to work in my school district next to his winning photo.  David and I were in a Sycamore photo club together.  Last, but not least is Chris Thompson- another winner from last year.  I was also able to meet Jennifer Summer- who won the People category this year.  I am a huge fan of her work.  Christina Lawson (this years cover winner) also made an appearance even though she just had a baby a week and a half ago!

Ivan is ONE!

Ivan is ONE today!  We just returned from his birthday party in Columbus.  He’s such a cutie (not that I’m biased or anything).  We tried to fit in a little photo shoot despite the cold weather and dark dreary day.  Ivan’s sweet little smile definitely brightened things up.  I’m loving the first photo of Ivan watching Grandma come up the steps to his party.  I think he had a lot of fun.  He did, however, get a little tired of opening those pesky presents.  Luckily Owen was happy to help his cousin out.

Welcome home Josh!!!!

Josh Ferris (Kim and Dale’s son) arrived home from Iraq last week- safe and sound! You may remember the well wishes we sent to him (click here) last October. Today Josh visited the Junior High to talk with the students in Dana’s class (Grant, Bryce and Lola’s mom). Last year they “adopted” him and sent letters, care packages as well as lots of prayers and support. Take a look at the video above that is posted on Cincinnati.com. I think I speak for everyone when I say we are SO excited that your are home JOSH!!!! Thank you for EVERYTHING you do to serve our country!!!

Cate & Alex

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Cate and Alex again.  It’s been over a year since I’ve seen them (pics here).  Alex has gotten SO big, but he still has those gorgeous blue eyes.  Cate is as sweet as she was as our last session- what a cutie!  We’ve had this session on the calendar since last winter- I’m so glad everything worked out.  We had such a beautiful Fall weekend for our session!

Soccer Tournament

Truitt had a soccer tournament today.  He was so excited that he still had a couple games left after their official season was over.  St. Vincent lost their first game 0-1 and and tied the second 0-0.  As it so happened the second team we played also lost their first game 0-1.  Since one team had to advance to the finals and both records were exactly the same they held a “shoot out”.  Each team chose 5 people to attempt goal kicks and one goalie to defend against the other team.  Truitt was one of the goal kickers.  Unfortuanately his kick was blocked by the other teams goalie.  One St. Vincent player managed to score a goal, but the other team was able to put two balls past our goalie.  So, Truitt’s team did not advance to the finals.  Truitt was *so* upset.  He just kept saying over and over, “I want to play a game on Sunday.”  My heart broke for him, but Joe and I both had to admit that it was really nice to see him so passionate about his soccer team.  I think Truitt may have found his niche.
