Elle Everyday: Twenty-three days old

Today was one of those crazy busy days. At 9pm I still hadn’t taken Elle’s daily photo so I talked Joe into trying out his photography skills. I set my camera WIDE open (1.4) and jacked the ISO up to 1600 in order to get a photo in our dark living room without using the flash.  Elle was less than cooperative as this is her fussiest time of day, but I think Joe managed to get a pretty good shot here. I’m loving the composition (I didn’t crop a thing) and he did a great job with the focus (which is really tough at such a shallow depth of field). I’m hoping to take True’s photo with Elle tomorrow if all goes as planned.

Elle Everyday: Twenty-two days old

Throughout the week I’ll be doing a mini photo shoot featuring each of the boys with their baby sister.  I’m letting them choose what they want to be photographed with- Owen chose the Ohio flag as his backdrop . . . no surprise there.  He was very excited about our session and even directed a bit.  He wanted Elle’s head to be on the red circle.  I was really happy with how these turned out . . . and so was Owen.  I’ll have to print them for his room!

1,2,3,4- I declare a NERF war . . .

Joe bought each of the boys a Nerf gun for Christmas.  They have been planning a “Nerf war” ever since.  Today was the day.  They played their own version of capture the flag (Owen’s flags of course).  Isaac and Truitt vs. Joe and Owen.  I was feeding Elle during most of the action, but I managed to round up the troops for a group photo.  They were pelting me with Nerf bullets the entire time.  Joe and Owen were the official winners.  However, everyone was awarded a prize . . . cookies all around!

Little miss Elle is opening her eyes a lot more lately.  The boys flock to her when they are open.  They love to show her things and talk to her.  It’s really sweet.  We are finally settling in after being gone all week.  As usual, our families went overboard with wonderful gifts for everyone.  I’ll be sharing some on my blog throughout the week.  Now we just have to find a place for everything in this teeney tiny house!

Elle Everyday: Twenty days old

This is Elle with her namesake and my sister.  “B”, as we call her, has been waiting YEARS to have one of my children claim her name as their middle name.  It was the plan from the time I started having children.  As you can imagine, we thought it would never actually happen.  B spent hours holding Elle over Christmas.  I’m so glad they had a chance to hang out.  Since B lives in Chicago it’s pretty tough to just drop by for a visit.  I have a feeling Elle and I will be making some pilgrimages to Chicago in the future for a girls shopping weekend with Aunt B!

Elle Everyday: Nineteen Days Old

We’ve been going through old pictures at my Mom’s house and we found one taken of me as a baby that reminded me of Elle. I asked my mom if she still had the dress and *somehow* she found this one in the attic that is quite similar.

Elle Everyday: Eighteen days old

Merry Christmas everyone!  We had a crazy fun day.  Here is Elle with her stocking and hot pink leopard mini-marshmallow shooting gun.  Santa must know thatshe will need to defend herself from those big brothers of hers :) .

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas Eve!!!

Elle Everyday: Sixteen days old

I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday . . . in fact Aunt B had to take this pic with her p+s late last night.  We had a very crazy and stressful day of travel.  B’s flight from Chicago was delayed twice (Phil sat at the airport for six hours only to have his flight cancelled).  Since I was picking up B from the airport in Columbus we waited to leave until we were sure her flight was taking off.  Meanwhile freezing rain was moving into Cincinnati all the way up to Shelby.  I left with Owen and Elle in the van and drove up to Cross County Highway to avoid the mall traffic.  I sat in stopped traffic only to discover a multi-car accident on the overpass.  All traffic was diverted onto 71 SOUTH.  Long story short we were in the car an hour and twenty minutes only to turn around at our very own exit (which had three accidents on that overpass).  The roads were a sheet of ice all the way home.  I was a nervous wreck.  Joe met me at an exit and took all four kids(what a sweetheart).  We all arrived safely in Shelby around 9pm after some “white-knuckle” driving.  Ahhh, it’s great to be home.
