Behold the Polyester Bikini

My mother has so kindly offered up for public ridicule some vintage images of her famous Polyester Bikini. That’s Melissa in the backyard kiddie pool and that’s me sitting in front of the record collection.

But I think the bottom photo of Melissa and two of her friends–who also had the pleasure of wearing the Polyester Bikini–best displays the swimsuit’s inability to stay in place while enjoying some fun in the sun.

In my mom’s defense, I do love that she sewed us cute clothes when we were little, I just think bathing suits are something best purchased.

The cutest little dress

The Speelpeople stopped by my mom’s on their way to camping Saturday and she had made Elle the cutest little dress. Mel sent me the little picture on my cellphone showing me the criss-cross back and then my mom sent me the others. The dress also has a striped lining that you can kind of see. My mom made us a lot of clothes when we were little–most memorably her famous polyester bikini–and I think they ALL included ric-rac.

A delicious taste

Seems like I always end up writing about food when I guest post, and here I go again. We rode our bikes down to the Taste of Chicago today because a co-worker of mine’s band was playing. And of course we  had to sample the fare. Phil headed straight for the smokiest booth around and ordered the Sauteed Goat Meat with Plantains. I played it a little safer with a little cup of gazpacho and a giant plate of Sweet Potato Chips. We worked it off with a round of putt-putt.

Campingpalooza 2009!

It’s that time again,  our annual camping trip kicks off tomorrow.  Eight action-packed days of camping mayhem!  Once again my sister will be taking over a-post-a-day for me.  Show her a little blog lovin’ while I’m gone (that means add a comment every now and then).  Check out this years logo, isn’t it AWESOME!.  Seriously, every year B knocks the design right out of the park and this year is no exception.  Thanks B!!!  The t-shirts are hot off the presses and we are madly packing.  We will have to take two vehicles this year- and they are both stuffed to the roof.  Hopefully we’ll still have room for the kids :) .  I promise to have lots of pics when I return next week!

Oh how I love these . . .

I went to Dana’s house for a “Ladies of SJHS” summer get together.  It was SO great to sit by the pool and talk with everyone.  As things were winding down Dana’s kids came down to the pool.  The boys jumped in- lucky me, I had my camera ready to go.  I only snapped a few quick shots, but I just love this one of Bryce and Grant.  I can’t wait to go back and take underwater pics of ALL the kids.  Thanks for a great time Dana!

Mohawk

We’ve been waiting to get the boys hair cut until right before camping.  Well, today was the day.  Isaac has been telling me that he wants a mohawk, but I truly thought he would cave once we got there.  Much to my surprise he held strong and convinced me to let him do it (after all, one zip through with the clippers and it’s gone).  I must say that it looks pretty darn good on him.  He absolutely loves it.  The proof is right here.  That boy NEVER wants his picture taken and he practically directed this photo session.  He told me that you can’t smile for pictures when you have a mohawk :) .

Maggie

Ty the fish

I photographed an SJHS family today.  I have known Vic and Meghan for about twelve years now.  Their kids are absolutely adorable!  We decided to go to the park behind Blue Ash Rec Center so the kids could go swimming after our session.  I suggested bringing along my p+s for some underwater fun.  Ty was SO excited about getting his picture taken underwater.  He was awesome.  It’s almost midnight now which means I need to get a post in before the clock strikes twelve, so I decided to grab one of Ty swimming like a little fish!  More to come!

Legos!

It’s no secret that my boys LOVE Legos.  They are all three proud card-bearing members of the Brickmaster Club.  We received a postcard in the mail a few weeks back announcing that Kenwood Towne Center was getting a Lego store.  You’ve never seen such excitement!  On top of that, the boys were invited (along with every other kid in Cincy) to help build an 8′ R2D2 out of Lego’s.  That postcard has been hanging on our fridge ever since.  I’m pretty sure that I have been asked daily how close June 19th was.  The day finally arrived and we were one of the first ones to help build R2D2.  The boys built “mega” bricks for the builders to use on the giant R2D2.  Owen is standing beside the scale model.  Each “mega” brick contains 32 regular size bricks.  We have not been back to see the 8″ version of R2D2, but I’m sure we will be stopping by to visit him this week!

Happy Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!  I know that I couldn’t have picked a better person to raise all these crazy kids with.  Joe has always been such a hands on dad.  I’m so glad that he was able to stay home with Elle after she was born.  They have such a sweet relationship.  Elle gets the biggest smile on her face whenever she hears her daddy’s voice.  The boys love playing Legos with dad and going to the baseball field just to hit some baseballs with him.  Today we all went to the pool.  It was the perfect way to spend Father’s Day.  Elle *loved* floating around in the pool.  She was in the pool for almost two hours.  Owen wanted to head to the baby pool (which is like bath water).  Once Elle hit that warm water she was out:).  I couldn’t believe she she could sleep through all the splashing and yelling!  Isaac and I tried out some more underwater pics . . . fun!  Owen wandered over to the pool wearing his towel over his water wings.  I couldn’t resist getting a photo.  I hope all the dads out there had as much fun as we did today.  Happy Father’s Day to my dad, my father-in-law, my brother and all my brother-in-laws too!
