Thriller!
Tonight was our SJHS Variety Show. The teachers always perform during the finale. This year we performed Thriller! The choreography was almost identical to the video . . . it was pretty incredible. I don’t have photos of the actual performance becuase I was in it
. Do I have a great job or what?!
Here are some pics of my fabulous co-workers in action! Great job everyone! Can’t wait to do it again next year (however, this year will be hard to top!).
Patterns in Nature: 8th grade hands
I just love this project . . . students were asked to find a pattern nature. They chose anything from animal fur to microorganisms. They replicted the pattern using acrylic paint on 12×18″ paper. Once their painting was complete, they camoflaged their hand within the painting. I photograped each composition and now students are manipulating the images in PhotoShop. They are INCREDIBLE! And best of all, the students are so impressed with themselves

Maggie
Fresh . . .
Meet Leah, Kim’s freshest grandchild. Kim’s daughter, Andrea, gave birth to Leah last Friday night and then came to Kim’s Christmas party on Sunday!!! Leah is just over 48 hours old in this pic. How insanely adorable is she?! I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of Leah (and hopefully more of the Christmas party too). Tomorrow is Truitt’s birthday bowling party. Stay tuned!
The Darbyshire’s
It’s been almost a month since I took these pics. Thank goodness my good friend Dana is very patient :). I have so many favorites. Her family is so much fun (not to mention completely adorable)! Our kids are great friends. All of our kids have the same (awesome) sitter. Bryce and Owen now go to pre-school together. They are great buddies. Lola and Elle are destined to be the best of friends too. I feel so fortunate that all of our paths have crossed the way they have.
Final Chuck Close Projects . . .
FUN new project in the works . . .
This is another one of my *favorite* projects based on the work of Chuck Close. These are double self-potraits- the image is a self portrait and was created using the artists fingerprints. After students have completed their portraits they will begin working on a colorful background in the style of Chuck Close’s large scale paintings. I’ll be sure to post their final pieces!
Magnetic Personalities
I wanted to share my latest 8th grade project . . . Magnetic Personalities. These were made using a 12″ pizza pan, chipboard frame and ceramic facial features. Students first worked on a personal color palette by working with adobe kuler. Oncethey decided on a color scheme that illustrated their personality they drew a self portrait minus the facial features which were created using clay, fired and painted with acrylics. We adhered magnets to the back of the ceramic pieces and stuck them to the gessoed/painted pizza pans. Students made extra facial features and accessories so that the portraits would be interactive. I *LOVE* how they turned out!
*Love* these drawings!
I had to snap a few pics while my 7th graders were working today. I absolutely *love* contour drawing. It really forces my students to draw from their heart. They used one contiuous line to draw their partner as well as the background. Everything in the background is actually in my classroom. These drawings are so whimsical and full of life. Enjoy!
