big, Giant, ENORMOUS NEWS!!!!

This photo is going to be published in the December issue of National Geographic!!!!  I am FREAKING out!!!  I received an e-mail earlier today that it was a possibility.  I was asked to answer a few questions.  This afternoon I received another e-mail confirming that I would be in the December issue.  Holy moly- I am floored.  Now I need to figure out how in the world to get my hands on a copy of the magazine.  Do they sell them in stores?  I think you have to be a member of the National Geographic Society or something.  If so,  I may just be their newest member :) .  Oh man, somebody pinch me.

Edited to add:  O.k., I think you can buy NatGeo at the newstand . . . no need to join the society :)

A photo of the photographers . . .

This shot was taken by one of the other photographers at the workshop in downtown Phoenix.  I didn’t even know she was taking it :).  My roomie Julie is on the far right.  I’ll have to post some of the pics I took of our shadows.

Cell phone sunrise . . .

I took this photo with my cell phone on my way to school today.  There was such a gorgeous sunrise- I wondered if I could actually capture it with my pitiful cell phone camera.  The boys were a little alarmed that I was taking photos while driving- I promise that I was stopped in the turn lane :).  This has been kind of a crazy week.  I think a beautiful sunrise was just what I needed this morning.

My blog, in a book!

I’m still having issues with my desktop, so my sister uploaded some screen shots of one of my BEST GIFTS EVER (can you tell I’m excited about it?).  Becky took the first six months of my blog and made it into a book.  She has worked long and hard on this project.  Every page was custom designed by her- it looks CrAzY AWeSoMe!  The book is hardcover and 143 pages- she even included all the comments.  You can see the cover design on the top right (Isaac and the butterfly).  You really have to flip through the book to see how incredible it truly is.  I’m sure I’ll be showing it off at school and anywhere else I go.  I’ve already had a couple people inquire about getting their own copy.  So here is a link for those who are interested . . . Lulu.com (search for Melissa Speelman).  By the way, the only people making money on this is Lulu :).  Now I just need to talk her into designing a 2007 and 2008 edition . . . pretty pleeeeese!!!

How insanely cool is this?!

zazzle.jpg

I happened upon this incredibly cool site today where you can design your own pair of Keds!  Of course I had to drop everything and start designing mine that very instant :).  I didn’t actually purchase these.  I need to give a little more thought to my design- however $60 really isn’t too bad for one-of-a-kind cool shoes.  You can also design shoes using all the patterns and colors they have to offer without actually adding photos.  After I played around a bit with my design I did a screen capture to share my shoes with all of you.  If you are off of work this Monday I highly recommend *playing*.  Here’s the link:  http://www.zazzle.com/ (go to custom shoes then design your own).  Have Fun!

17 weeks . . .

Belly 17 wks texture.jpg

I went to the doctor on Tuesday.  I had to ask the nurse how far along I am (that’s what happens when it’s your fourth :) ).  I’m 17 weeks on the dot today.  I made sure to write it on my calendar so I don’t look like a fool next time.  I’m feeling pretty good . . . tired, but that could be due to my pregnancy or the three crazies that keep me on my toes each day.

I’ve been tagged . . .

tagged.jpg

Let me start by saying that I do my very best to avoid these things, but my good freind Kelly (blog here) tagged me and to be completely honest I didn’t have a post ready for today.  So, here it is . . .

#1 What were you doing ten years ago? Well, I actually dug up some pics from 10 years ago.  It wasn’t easy since those were “film” days, but I managed to find some photos that are pretty darn close to EXACTLY 10 years ago.  These photos are from our annual Fourth of July camping trip- yes, we’ve been doing this a looooong time!  Joe and I were married with no kids yet.  Come to think of it, we conceived Isaac the summer of 1998 (there’s a thought!).

#2 Five things on your to do list  First of all, I wish there were only five things on my to do list!  1.  Pack for camping (that’s a doozey right there!)  2.  Finish proofing photos (another biggie)  3.  Clean the house  4.  Play with the boys (an easy one)  5.  RELAX!!! ( I really should move that to #1)

#3  Snacks you enjoy  I’m starting to have some pregnancy cravings, they include chips + dip (a total addiction for me), grapes (I leave a bowl in the fridge and snack on them all day long) and Auntie Em Cinnamon Pretzels (yuuuuum!)

#4  Places you’ve lived  Shelby, Akron and Cincinnati, Ohio

#5  Things you would do if you were a billionaire  Wow, that’s kinda tough.  I would definitely travel with my family.  I’m pretty sure I would keep my teaching job- maybe go part time.  I would also photograph families all over the place- for free of course :).

Spoolies!

IMG_5226.jpg

Meet the Speelman’s . . . as spoolies!  I had these made *especially* for our family by the very talented Erica Daley.  She did such an incredible job!  She even made Joe just the right height.  The boys each have their own unique eye and hair color too.  The boys absolutely love them.  You may be wondering who the little bean at the end of the line is . . . well . . . he/she is just that, a little bean . . . in my belly.  I guess this is my official announcement :).
