Rockets & Lollipops

My whole family met up in Marysville this weekend at my brother’s house for rockets and lollipops.  When we were kids one of our favorite delicacies was lollipops (marinated flank steak cubed, rolled up and put on a stick then grilled).  They are DELICIOUS!  My brother also organized a rocket launch in his backyard.  All the kids had a chance to “push the button” and lauch a rocket.  It’s not often that we all get together- especially without a holiday involved.  We’re hoping to make Rockets & Lollipops an annual event.  Thanks Mike and Lori for an incredible weekend!!!

Mel - Oh, and you have to soak the wood sticks in water overnight too so they make it on the grill.

Melissa - Thanks Kathy! Lollipops are super easy. Get flank steak at the butcher and ask them to run it through the cuber once or twice to thin it out. My brother just has his steak run through once and pounded it out a little more at home. My mom always assembled the lollipops first then marinated them in a bottle of Catalina salad dressing (French dressing). My brother marinated the steak first, but it’s a lot harder to cut that way. Cut the steak into about 1″ strips, roll and stick a short wooden skewer through the meat like a lollipop. Make sure you soak the sticks in water overnight so that they don’t burn up on the grill. Marinate themn overnight and grill them up the next day. They are so incredible!
