Then and now . . .

I’m slowly working of a serious backlog of photos.  Two years ago I took the first photo in Pratville, Alabama on our way to Ft. Walton.  I have this photo hanging in my living roon as an 18×24″ canvas.  I love it.  I decided to try my luck again in the very same hotel on our way to Florida this year.  Amazingly all four kids cooperated- with a little help from dad.

elliottsurf - Oh this is so cute…I’m just wondering how you will squeeze those big boys in when you have to shoot the same pose when they are heading off to college, or on the eve before Elle’s wedding!

Please share your settings (manual or ?) ,lens, flash or natural lighting?. You are able to get such crisp shots and everyone is in focus! Just awesome!

Melissa - Thanks elliottsurf! Oh, I hate to think of the boys getting that big- of course Isaac almost looks me in the eye already. I had my camera on aperture priority mode (AV). I always use natural light. Hotels always have incredible light coming through those big windows. I probably had my aperture set to 2.5 and focused on Elle’s eyes while standing on the bed. I was using my 35mm lens- which is on my camera 99% of the time. Hope that helps!

elliottsurf - Melissa, thanks for the details…such gorgeous shots.

I didn’t mean to rush and make your kids grow up, but we are packing up our oldest to go to college in a few days. Your photos remind me so much of when my kids were little. Your photos bring all of those good, hectic and crazy times back to me!
