Truitt and I had such an incredible day! I had a little surprise for him . . . I set up a “Penguin Encounter” at the Newport Aquarium. He was so excited when I told him. We got to go behind the scenes and actually touch the penguins. It was so cool. They were nine penguins running all around our feet! It was a little tough to take pictures since we couldn’t get up and move around, but I was so enamored with the penguins anyway. After the aquarium we went to Tom + Chee (I just realized I forgot to include those pics). I had a grilled cheese on sourdough bread with bacon and crushed BBQ potato chips and Tomato Bisque soup . . . seriously delicious. We had some hot chocolate at Starbucks and walked from Kentucky to Ohio and back (on the Purple People Bridge). What a fun day!!!
Jani - Wow, these tell a great story of Truitt’s birthday date with mom. I can’t decide on a favorite because I like each of them for a very different reason. I’ve looked at them several times trying to decide. Looking forward to seeing the Tom + Chee photos, never heard of it before — if it has grilled cheese sounds like a fun place to me. Does Truitt have a favorite photo from his day with you?
Mom - The picture of Truitt walking across the bridge makes him look so old. Slow down Truitt, I like you just the way you are!!
Karen H - These are so sweet. What a nice outing for a birthday present:) Can I ask, when you take a little outing like this, what lens do you bring? A zoom or a prime?
Melissa - Thanks Karen! I only had my 35mm with me. Love that lens!
Melissa - Prime, that is.
Karen H - THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really must get me that lens, it sounds wonderful:)
Karen H - I want to add, your photography is so wonderful because of you, not because of the lens, I know that. The artist in you really shines through in your photos. I would never have thought of these angles. But thank you for answering my question because I am still trying to figure this stuff out:):):)
olga - Melissa,
could you share some of your processing secrets, please?
Thanks so much.
Melissa - Olga- Sure! I go in phases with processing. I always start out by tweaking my images in Lightroom. I don’t use presets- I usually adjust exposure and clarity. My go-to action has been Jinky’s “Low Color Pop” which actually came as a free sample from her new action set (which I haven’t actually purchased). I think I downloaded it from her Facebook page. I love it! It adds just the right amount of pop. I usually take the Hue/Saturation down to 50%. That’s it. I play around with some images more than others, but generally I try not to over process my images. Hope that helps!
Jodi - no photo questions- just an “I LOVE these pictures” comment! What a special day for you and Truitt!
ella - your picture are just wonderful..thanks for sharing. It’s help me to see what could be “good pictures”. My god…a lot to learn to be able to do similar pictures….beautiful !!
olga - Thank you very much, Melissa! Very helpful comments. Merry Christmas!
