Week in the Life: November 27 to October 2!

1-26Week in the Life is less than a week away!  I’m really hoping I can make this project happen. . . it’s not going to be easy with our crazy schedule.  My plan is to document as much as I possibly can with whatever camera is close by.  I may end up shooting the whole week on my phone.  I’m going to try VERY hard not to be a perfectionist about my shots (which will also be difficult).  Currently, my house looks like a bomb went off.  My life is chaotic, disorganized and messy.  I’m going to try to just go with it :).

Ali Edwards has some great tips and tools on her blog to help get organized for the week.  I printed out THIS template to help collect information and tidbits each day.  I want to try and focus on little routines that we don’t think twice about today, but will love to look back on in 10-15 years.

I still haven’t exactly decided what my final project is going to “look” like.  Will it be a photo book, video, canvas collage . . . I’m not sure.  I may end up purchasing some of Ali’s digital Week in the Life templates and create a photo book documenting the week.  That is exactly what Kathy from Brisbane did, you may have seen her comment on one of my blog posts where she linked her WITL project.  If not, check it out HERE.  This is what Kathy had to say . . .

I posted my Week in the Life process last year which I thought might help you but as you know everyone is different and Ali has lots of tips. My biggest advice is to have the camera with you, take heaps of photos even if they don’t end up getting used. Take photos of the cereal your kids eat, the school backpacks at the door, dropping them off to school, you eating lunch, the washing etc. I used a template for mine which is listed in the post here. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane

Kathy’s “Week in the Life” books are AWESOME!!  Thanks so much for chiming in Kathy!  We appreciate your advice!

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by this project, but right now my game plan is to collect and capture as much as I can throughout the week and figure out my next steps later . . . in other words I’m planning on flying by the seat of my pants:).

Jani - I love this…I say just go with it because your title to this post made me smile, my week already feels that hectic and it hasn’t started. I think I want to see the BEAUTY of the “imperfection” in my life?

Melissa - I’m having a rough time, Jani. I’m doing my best, but I’m thinking this may work better for me in the summer. There is just too much going on!!

Jani - Conferences didn’t help me today, I agree summer would be better for the creative freedom, but not sure it would have the rawness and reality of our crazy lives?????

Kathy - Thanks Melissa for sharing those tips I mentioned. I always get exhausted by the end of Day 3 but just push through, it’s so worth it and now (here in Australia) I’m on Day 7. Rememember aside from writing a few notes down the main project is taking the photos, the book or whatever medium you decide to do comes later. You will so love it but it’s a commitment (harder than photo a day for a year I think) but it’s so worth it. I’ve posted Day 1 to Day 6 on my blog now so you can check out my photos.
