Here are two examples of the hand paintings after being manipulated in Photoshop by couple of eighth grade boys. I showed the students a few Photoshop basics on the Interwrite board and then set them free to experiment and explore in Photoshop. You could hear the students in the lab saying , “Cool! How’d you do that!?” and then they would teach one another different aspects of PS. I am so excited about how these are turning out!

Patterns in Nature: 8th grade hands
February 8, 2010 – 11:24 am
I just love this project . . . students were asked to find a pattern nature. They chose anything from animal fur to microorganisms. They replicted the pattern using acrylic paint on 12×18″ paper. Once their painting was complete, they camoflaged their hand within the painting. I photograped each composition and now students are manipulating the images in PhotoShop. They are INCREDIBLE! And best of all, the students are so impressed with themselves
