*Love* these drawings!

I had to snap a few pics while my 7th graders were working today.  I absolutely *love* contour drawing.  It really forces my students to draw from their heart.  They used one contiuous line to draw their partner as well as the background.  Everything in the background is actually in my classroom.  These drawings are so whimsical and full of life.  Enjoy!

Carla - Did they use colored pencils or watercolor pencils for the warm color areas?

September 2, 2013 - 8:52 pm

Melissa - The students used colored pencils, but I let them choose whether to use them for warm or cool colors (then they use watercolors for the opposite). Watercolor pencils would certainly work too.

Susan Horne - Hi! These are beautiful! I was wondering how many days it took to complete?

September 1, 2014 - 8:11 pm

Melissa - Susan- I would say about a 7-8 50 minutes classes. I spend at least two days on practice drawings. I use 24×18″ paper so if you used a smaller size it would cut down completion time.

Lisa - These are great! I think I’ll do these with my junior high students too. Did your students use drawing paper or watercolor paper? Do you remember the weight of the paper? Thanks!

Kelly - Hello! These are great!!
What were your requirements/suggestions for dividing the drawing into warm and cool sections and for the pattern?

Thank you!

Linda - Hi,
I love this assignment and would love to try it with my 6th graders. I am a new art teacher and it would be so helpful if you could tell me what the guidelines/requirements were for the colouring (ie. how the whole image is divided, what colour families, etc). Thanks so much!

Sally - Hi,

Just like Linda I’d love to do this assignment with my 6th graders. Could you give me some guidelines too if you have them handy? The artwork is wonderful.
